Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) concluded today an awareness-raising campaign launched as part of the 10-day summer camp organized by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) from July 18 to 28.
DFWAC campaign included a series of interactive workshops and programs that focused on children’s psychological and social aspects, targeting parents and children aged 7 to 14.
The activities featured a special workshop entitled "My Body is Mine" in addition to another workshop from a psychological and social perspective, as well as interactive sessions with pets to promote children’s awareness.
The campaign was particularly designed to fuse fun with learning, using innovative teaching techniques and creative approaches. Children were offered balls of faces with sad and happy emotions, and every child had to pick up the ball that best represented his feelings.
While some activities addressed the body parts and the areas that no one is allowed to touch, children acted out scenes that represented potential scenarios and explained how children should act towards such scenarios. The primary goal of the campaign was to teach children when they should loudly say "NO"!
Parents have also been addressed with a special workshop to promote their awareness about the rights and needs of their children at different age stages through a holistic psychosocial perspective. A presentation on Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, its services, and the categories it supports was held during the gathering, highlighting the detrimental effects of a kid growing up in a violent environment.
H.E. Shaikha Saeed Al Mansouri, Acting Director General of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, stressed that the foundation has been keen to take part in the summer camp to improve awareness about children's rights, educate parents on how to understand children's needs, and teach kids how to safeguard their bodies and minds from being subjected to any violations, using engaging and creative teaching methods.
Al Mansouri added that the foundation is committed to protecting families and safeguarding children from everything that threatens, impairs, or influences their development, and that all initiatives launched and put into action are in line with the goals of the Wadeema Law, the National Strategy for Motherhood and Childhood, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in order to best promote and uphold the happiness and welfare of children.
"The UAE attaches utmost attention to children’s care and safety and works around-the-clock to provide them with all forms of support they need to ensure they lead a dignified and proper life. With that in mind, the country has adopted a plethora of laws and initiatives to safeguard children and provide them with a decent life. They are the true wealth of the nation and the building blocks for reaching global leadership," Al Mansouri stated.
